The mountains in western North Carolina (USA) are often referred to as the Great Smoky Mtns - due to the smoke/fog that can often be seen there. These photos were taken near Asheville, NC which is becoming a very fast growing arts area. 

 Unfortunately, the people moving here - from other states and countries - are destroying what attracted them to the mountains in the first place - and bringing with them the problems of the bigger cities they left behind  - traffic jams, higher property taxes and over population of the area and a drain on local resources.   Of course, I am a native so I feel strongly on this issue!
