Fort Collins/Loveland Relay for Life, June 13-14, 2009

The 2009 Fort Collins and Loveland "Relay for Life" was held at "The Ranch" (aka Larimer County Fairgrounds).

As usual it's a fun-filled, carnival atmosphere as teams celebrate their success raising money for the American Cancer Society.

But there's also a somber side to the event, the Luminaria ceremony. Hundreds of luminarias representing survivors, as well as loved ones no longer with us, surround the track.

This has been a big year for cancer, at least for me. Several co-workers lost parents. I lost my beloved Aunt Helyn. And then there were numerous friends and co-workers, as well as my mother-in-law and sister-in-law who were diagnosed and treated. So for me it was more important than ever to contribute to this event. Thanks to those who sponsored me. Every little bit helps.

Thanks for sharing these pictures. I am from Greeley, now living in Pennsylvania. I know my sister-in-law was at this event, and it was great to see shots of it. I loved the people in costume.

Our own event here in western PA had a great turn-out, also. I am sure we will one day find a cure...
