One of the first things given to a child is a name. This name helps everyone differentiate the child from other people. This is the first sense of identity formed within a person.

I am Raphael Ku, born on December 1, 1992. I exist. I am no longer just a name. I am an individual. I enjoy reading and playing video games. I procrastinate things to the last minute. i spend a lot of time at home. All of these things form my identity. Although the world has influenced my choices, I myself chose these things to be a part of me, a part of my identity.

As we grow older, this prototype identity slowly changes. The world around us starts to influence our very existence.

Our identity is shaped by our family,

by our surroundings,

by our friends,

and by our failures and successes.

While these factors may shape our identity, it does not define us. I am not my mother, my father or my brothers. My identity is not defined from my surroundings, the friends I make, or my failures and successes.

It is still up to me to create my identity. I am still my own person
