Contemplating Identity

THE MACROCOSM

within THE MICROCOSM

People — nothing but mere tools, ever-ready to conform to ideas, participate in wars, work for the welfare of the state, and live out their generic lives.

They are lovers of traditionalism and mob mentality.

In the past, they clung to their tribes in hopes of survival.

They act, think, believe, and speak in accordance with the rest of the pack because they fear rejection from them.

At present, they surrender their license to the state in exchange for securities and opportunities.

There is nothing unique, eccentric, arbitrary, or deviant in a single individual.

Totally nothing.

Are these true?

Is that all there really is to a person?

What of one's preferences?

What of one's interests?

How about one's passions?

What of one's words? In speech or in writing?

What of one's thoughts?

What of one's beliefs?

What of one's actions?

One's decisions?

Expressions?

What of one's dislikes?

Of one's Fears?

What of one's skills?

What of one's victories?

Or accomplish-ments?

What of one's family?

What of one's society, of one's community? And the footprints that one leaves upon these?

They're all different. They vary from person to person.

Sure, some people may be alike in a lot of ways.

But it is the totality of all of these that constitutes one's individuality.

One's sense of identity.
