My sweet Anastasia passed away a couple weeks ago at the ripe old age of 18. She lived a good long life and I loved her very much. But she was tired and ill and she was ready to move on. It doesn't make her going any less painful but it helps.

What also helped was adopting two kitties in desperate need of a loving home. This is Mouffette and Sophie.

I also wanted to add that going to the shelter to look at cats made something abundantly clear; There are far too many pets out there that are in desperate need of a forever home. With the tough economic times, a great many animals are simply being abandoned. It's really sad. If you had to move, would you leave one of your kids behind? I wanted to take them all home but it just wasn't possible.

Please have your pet spayed or neutered and if you plan to adopt a cat or a dog, I ask that you consider one from a shelter.

Lovely shots of Mouffette & Sophie. And I totally agree with your comments, Wendy: a pet isn't a toy or article of clothing to be discarded. They are a committment for life.

I a sorry to hear of your loss of Anastasia, and so wonderful you gave these kitties a new loving home :) beautiful shots of both. makes me sick people think animals are disposable..thrown out like trash. A pet is a responsibility for a LIFE with a HEART AND SOUL! good messages Wendy.

What adorable kitties. It's a shame that so many people abandon their pets. We live in the country and people drop animals off, so we see a lot of strays. Right now I'm feeding a gorgeous tiny white cat that only shows up at night begging for food. I'm hoping she'll decide it's safe during the day, too.
It's always sad to lose a pet. I'm sorry about your Anastasia...18 years is a good long life for a cat.

Beautiful babies and such true words about shelter animals. They make awesome pets - they find themselves there through no fault of their own - please adopt! :)

Wendy--sorry to hear that Anastasia had to leave after I'm sure many wonderful years together. Your new kitties look like they are settling into a home where they will be happy and loved.

Max is a rescue dog and the others I've had were also adopted. I believe Adoption is the way to go. Thanks for bringing the topic up. And as Wendy said--always Spay or Neuter.
