Cheong Fatt Tze a financier, diplomat, philantropist, Minister,  Mandarin of the Highest Order was one of the richest man in South East Asia. He was named as the Rockefeller of the East by New York Times. He headed south to South East Asia at the age of 16. He work his way from rags to riches, by throwing himself into the world of business and finance. He invested in glassworks,cattle and textiles. With success he went into banking and eventually operated steamships and trans-Pacific shipping. Had a great taste for wines, he established his own winery, the Chang Yu Winery which produces Western wines which he adored. The winery is still in operation today in China. A nationalist who went back to China and was promoted to a full minister in 1902. In 1911 he was a senator in parliment and was advisor to the Chinese goverment on administrative and trade matters
