Couroupita guianensis

Árvore de grande beleza quando em flor, tem a desvantagem de frutos pesados. Originalmente da Amazônia, é utilizada em paisagismo urbano e plantada em fazendas, atingindo 8 a 15 metros de altura. Folhas simples, agrupadas no final do ramo. Flores directamente a partir do tronco, os grandes (5 cm), vermelho e amarelo. Fruto redondo, grande (20 cm de diâmetro).

Os nomes populares utilizados no Brasil sempre se referem à forma  esférica  de seus frutos que, após o apodrecimento da polpa, adquire a forma de uma "tigela" de qualidade inferior. O nome Inglês "cannon ball tree" se refere à forma dos  frutos serem semelhantes  à bala de canhão.
