The Beth Chatto Garden (Essex, England)

The Beth Chatto Gardens began in 1960 when the site was an overgrown wasteland between two farms. Faced with all kinds of difficult conditions Beth and the late Andrew Chatto set out to find homes for many of the plants they wished to grow. With dry and damp soil in both sun and shade, they were able put into practice the underlying principles of what is now referred to as "Ecological gardening". http://www.bethchatto.co.uk/gardens.html

The garden is essentially in three main areas. There is a dry garden in which are planted drought resistant plants. There are small lakes surrounded by lawns and borders and finally there is a woodland area all underplanted with shade loving plants. It is a beautiful and inspirational garden.

Celia, I have a feeling within a reasonable time I will have travelled to all the beautiful gardens of England without even having pay the airfare. Thanks for this lovely tour. You should open a group on English or Great Britain's gardens. That would be better than any tourist guide.

Ah!!! Obrigada pela força no meu primeiro tabblo.

hi ms beth. i am pleased to see your garden. its very serene. i hope could be there also to feel the warm welcome it conveys to me. it is always my passion to see beautiful places all over the world. imagining that i am there sitting and enjoying the nature. here in the Philippines,i am a forester by profession and an environmentalist in my true life. thank GOD for people like you who have passion to craft idle lands into a garden full of life.thank you for that expression of yours. it relaxes my nerve.
