Regeneration

In 2003, severe bushfires in Canberra destroyed almost 70% of the Australian Capital Territory’s forests (pine plantations), nature parks, and pastures. Six years on, we can see signs of regeneration.

Very pretty scenery. I especially like the eigth and the sixth from the last, with the reflections. (Tabblo needs a better way of identifying individual shots!) I hope you weren't driving when you took the second-from-last :) And of course, nice bird shots, as usual.

very nice ser Sue! lots of great stand alone images here! the first reflection, cool chairs, fence and trees, and that inviting road! all so pretty there :) glad it's coming back :)
Snooway said at 11:46 p.m. on Aug 5, 2009:
Thanks Gaylet, Neusinha, Saul, Teo, Regale, Noe, and Deb! We have had more rain this year so it is greener than in the past and helpful for the regeneration. I still remember the black smoke that filled the air back in 2003! Scary time.

Nature does regenerate. I recall seeing a burned area in the Yukon 10 years after
a fire and the revival wasn't as great as this. Great photos.

Sue, what a perfect pictorial. love the daylight moon shoot.

we had a rash of drought caused fires all over Colorado, a few years ago. We smelled smoke in the air for quite some time. Thank you for posting the great info, as well, and as always, i love your photos! congrats!
Chilla said at 1:17 p.m. on Aug 6, 2009:
A great picture story Sue!! It is amazing how quickly nature recovers from such devastation! In Crete we experience fires like this in the summer and yet within a few years the scars are hardly visible. Congratulations on an excellent TOD!

Thank you for your encouraging and kind comments everyone! Karsten, glad you like the sepia effect, it was the first time for me to try it. Linda, your words mean a lot to me, thank you! Robert, Pam, and Ceila, thank you for sharing your recollections of other fires in different parts of the world. I hope that other places that have been affected similarly will be able to regenerate too! Thanks to Eric for the TOD.:)
