For my hike this hot August morning, I explored one end of the blue-blazed Cross-Fells Trail, which crosses my usual Skyline Trail. I came upon a family memorial, a rock in a tree, some lovely marshes, and a surprise: the very end of the trail was submerged and impassible. |

There wasn't much left of the Cross-Fells Trail after this. |

The southwest corner of the Middlesex-Fells Reservation, fed by Whitmore Brook, is boggy. |
