Ack! I see "Nantucket Nancy"

the island's unofficial sea monster

Yes, you discovered her here first!

Nantucket Shadows.

I spent my vacation on Nantucket, a beautiful island off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. In the 1800's it was the whaling capital of the world. Today it's a vacation destination.

It's a little farther off the coast than Martha's Vineyard where the Prez & his family spent their vacation - at the same time I was on Nantucket. I planned my vacation first. They copied me.

Ack! I'm here.

As a tourist, I take photos of myself to show that I was there so I can upload them and show the world.

"ACK" is Nantucket Airport's three letter designation. You can't swing a dead fish on the island without hitting a t-shirt or bumper sticker with ACK on it.

ACK humor has endless possibilities. Try it yourself!

Me at the beach. "Sea" I was really here. Hasn't she seen people take photos before?

"So what can I do besides sleep on the beach? What can I do after the beach?"

There are lots of places to hang at the end of the day. Nantucket has some fun out door concerts as well as other night spots.

The photo to the right was shot during an out door jazz concert. If you look closely, you will see a musical note in the clouds.

There's no editing or "photoshopping" on this. It is what it is. Somehow during the concert, a musical note formed in the sky.

Black & White District. What happens here stays here.

This was inspired by Joel Meyerowitz's famous "Cape Light" photos. Google him and you'll see what it's about.

When you're on an island, you have the opportunity to photograph both sunrise and sunset.

Since I don't rise before...well, late morning and have a pot, carafe, or briki of coffee before my day begins, sunrise is really not "in the picture".

ACK! Stop the car!

We were driving past the pond below when I saw the scene.

It's not the first time I've made people stop and pull over so I can shoot. It must get on people's nerves.

I can be a bad passenger.

Photographers  do what they need to do to get the shot.

I have mosquito bites from this to prove it.

These doors in almost the middle of nowhere, remind me of a Kubrik film or a Morrison poem.

Life is different on Nantucket.

Great stuff. I was there around the same time. Some of the beaches were closed due to Hurricane Bill. I didn't take many photos, but I did post some from The Wailers show at The Chicken Box on Aug 24.

George--this tabblo is absolutely so ACKLY entertaining--the photos and the commentary..... I'm glad you shared your vacation trip to Nantucket. Ditto on Noreen's comment. And I never can do sunrises either--too late and busy with my coffee. Love the alarm clock and the doors. Makes me think my yard could use a door. cool idea.
