The San Francisco Bay Bridge was closed down for 5 days over the Labor Day Weekend to slide out an old section of bridge and slide in a new section of roadway creating a detour so the new Bay Bridge Replacement could continue 

THe Bridge on the left  will be remove to build the new Bay Bridge,the bridge on the right is a temporary structure

Where the new and the old come together

Thi is part of the jacking system that will be used to moved the bridges

The new bridge on the right was built next to the old bridge, the bridge is 300 feet long and wieghs approx 3300 tons

It took approx 2 hours to slide th old bridge section out(the section on the right side)and begin prepping for the new xection to be moved into place

The old bridge is moved onto falsework

The old section moved onto temporary falsework, then the falework will  be removed and the bridge section will then be lowered with cables and dismanteld

The old deck section has been moved out of the way for the new deck section

The old deck has been moved leaving 300 foot gap

The New Deck section was  built 150 feet above the ground next to the Old Bridge section  

The  New Bridge section is being slid into the gapping hole ,the workers use Dawn dishwashing soap for lubication on the tracks

This is where we had our meals provide by the contractor

The old bridge has been moved out and new bridge is almost in place

The old bridge is out of the way and the new bridge is almost in place
