To accept civilization as it is practically means accepting decay. George Orwell

A land without ruins is a land without memories - a land without memories is a land without history.

There is no surer sign of decay in a country than to see the rites of religion held in contempt. Machiavelli

Thanks, PATRICK, RODNEY, CINTIA, OSCAR, DOREEN, NEUSINHA, ANNELIES, ENALDO, RITA, CHARLES & RAINER.

Decaying if one of my favorite subjects, and I hope these images & quotes will be able to provoke some "insights" in those who see/read them.

Fotos magníficas. Ricos detalhes em cada uma delas.

Excellent set, Eduardo. A little age and decay adds maturity and character to so many things.....even people:) The photography is first-class.

Excellent images Eduardo! :) i love the opening shot of old new side by side...the old is wonderful
i was so surprised scrolling down to the end to see the beautiful church so defaced! nice work as always, a pleasure to view and read the quotes you choose

Thank you a lot, WALTINHO, MIKE, FOGUINHO & DEBBIE. I usually open or close my tabblos with my favorite pic, but in this case it's the second to the left (washed clothes hanging on the balcony).

MIKE: It would be great if maturity and character didn't bring also wrinkles, gray hair, pain in the back and a few other symptoms which I prefer not to mention in a public tabblo...
Liliana said at 2:34 p.m. on Sep 16, 2009:
Decadente decadencia...

Lange said at 4:42 p.m. on Sep 16, 2009:
Bjs

Wonderful set!
Noe said at 8:54 p.m. on Sep 16, 2009:

Great set, as always, Eduardo! Despite the problems shown, your photos transmit also a lot of hope. For example, the sky above the church, the colorful clothes hanging there (this photo is like a jewel!), the eyes, the sun reflected on Casa das Chaves. Photo #2 caught my attention as well - perfect in terms of composition, texture, and colors! Thanks so much for this topnotch Tabblo!
Siagian said at 1:36 a.m. on Sep 17, 2009:
i like how you contrasted decay with infrastructural growth on the first photo. economically brasil is doing better than most countries these days, especially now that it will be supplying the world with oil. nice work.

I like the clothes hangig and the old church, and I really agree with Giambattista Vico.......In history is always like this ! Human nature !

Eduardo, I so admire the way you present your pictures both the beautiful and the less than beautiful! You do not shy away from presenting the facts as they are! Excellent choice of quotes.

heidenei, I`haven`t been to tabblo for maybe 10 days and there are at least 500 new and great tabblos of Eduardo... :-)
Lieber Eduardo, Un ?! ( "Un" is dialect and means " Tudo bem " )

Ebucar said at 7:56 a.m. on Sep 18, 2009:
I have never thought of "decaying" being a favorite subject.
Ira said at 12:01 p.m. on Sep 18, 2009:
My eyes often catch these views, which so are characteristic to cities. Sometimes I almost hate this architecture and ruin. Only people can create such. And still it is my world...

There's nothing sadder than to see graffiti on a church. The Machiavelli quote is dead on.
