Still in the month of 'ramadhan' where muslims fast from dawn till dusk, there is always an air of festvities everywhere. For the whole month, 'ramadhan' markets are almost everywhere. Virtually everything are being sold there. From new clothings, shoes, ready cooked food to fresh fish and vegetables. The open air market usually starts at about 4pm and ends in the evening. I took a trip to Baling, a town in the outskirt and was pleasantly rewarded with a colourful and vibrant atmosphere. |

Seafood are fresh from the sea like the bass, squids and mantis prawn. Other than that, There are quite a variety of fresh water fishes and the blueish prawn. Vegetables and fruits are locally grown. The greens are preferably eaten raw with 'sambal belacan', a chilly paste made from fresh chilly, fermented and dried shrimps grounded with shallots and lime. Rice is a must to go with all the hot, spicy, sour and delicious food. For soup, oxtail soup with lots of spices is my favourite. |

Over here, frying chicken is one of the most popular way to cook. Chicken meat are always marinated with 'rempah' (it's made up of shallots, garlic, tumeric, cloves, etc.). You will never be disappointed... mmm... yummy ! |
