~ Ghost in the Attic ~

There are spiders up here the size of cats...........Okay, I'm exaggerating, a little:)

As I've mentioned in a previous tabblo, the cottage I live in was built in the early 1800's.

Yesterday, I went up into the attic to search among the accumulated junk for an old desk lamp.  I found it, and also came across a dust-covered box full of items that had belonged to my late parents.  Among them was a book:  The Complete Plays of George Bernard Shaw. And inside the book was a folded newspaper from 1950, with a photograph of Shaw layed out on view the day after his death.

This book was published in 1937. I've taken the 'worse-for-wear' dust cover off it.

George Bernard Shaw ( Playwright & satirist ) 1856 ~ 1950

Four ages of GBS.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Bernard_Shaw

Shaw did not make known his religious beliefs, but did say that:  'No memorial should be made to him that should take the form of a cross, or any other instrument of torture or symbol of blood sacrifice'.

The link above uncovers a very interesting intellect.

So what has this got to do with a ghost in the attic, I hear you ask:)

Nothing.  I don't really believe in ghosts.....although I've seen and experienced a couple of things in my life that I can't explain, especially as I was stone-cold sober on both occasions.

'Ghost in the Attic' just seemed a good title for a set that included the photo of a great playwright making his final public appearance, in death.

And for anyone who thinks that this set is a bit morbid, drab, and/or too serious............

.....Here's a pic of the naughty but nice, artery-clogging, extremely high calorie Sunday morning breakfast I ate:)

And a few 'rainbow' shots.

And to finish, a picture of gorillas.  Unfortunately they are in the mist, so are hard to spot:)

Extra pic:  Some of you have shown  concern over my weekly fry-up, and so I include a pic of what I usually eat for breakfast.

Remember, everything in moderation, 'cause you're a long time dead:)

Another great find. And artery-clogging breakfast looking GOOD!
Eduardo.affonso said at 6:05 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
I loved the gorillas.Specially the fat female (second from the left) who reminds me of Eliza Doolittle.
Pachito said at 6:15 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
Hey Mike, isn't that you in the mist? Don't blame everything on the gorillas. You thought you could trick us, hehehe? No sausage for breakfast? That plate looks finger licking good!!!!
Erich said at 6:19 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
This one makes me really hungry!
Wildthing said at 6:22 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
Thanks, ANDRE. That breakfast was delicious, with maple syrup on the waffles, and plenty of strong, black coffee to chase the food down. Funny how almost everything nice in life is bad for you:)

Well spotted, EDUARDO. That female gorilla is called Ethel. She sometimes comes into the garden, eats the flowers and takes a dump on the lawn. Sweet girl. We call the big silverback she is over-friendly with, Higgins.
DocEna said at 6:24 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
Hehehehe. Mike you are a comedian the ghost story, the Shaw story and pics and the wrong-way meal make this an eclectic Tabblo...nice for a MONDAY MORNING...ALMOST FORGOT THE MISTY GORILLAS OR GORILLAS IN THE MIST.
Wildthing said at 6:29 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
Okay, PATRICK, I admit it, that's me in the mist, armed with camera and looking for Sigourney Weaver. Next Sunday I'll have sausages and tomatos with the bacon & hash browns:)

Go for it, RAINER. Eat something really dangerous. You only live once. And what made you really hungry, the sight of GBS, or my breakfast?:)
Wildthing said at 6:31 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
Haha, DOC. It started off as a serious tab, but I thought it needed some light relief to finish on.
Lageho said at 6:40 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
Nice story, Mike. Good food to. Thank you.
Appropos said at 7:34 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
a veritable treasure in the attic ... thats a nice looking breakfast...
Mirella said at 7:59 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
Oh Dear ! is this your everyday breakfast ? I know now why you see Ghosts...........I'm serious now: I like GBS since...........well, you can image...........he had not an easy character, but he was so ironic, so intelligent ! and I adore intelligent people ! Mike, I adore you !!!!!!!!Ciao
Rod38 said at 8:14 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
Oh.. I love those cholesterol on your table, yummy. Too bad can't eat it out of the screen. Ha! that's the ghost alrite, lying on the bed. Ever try to wake him up? hehehe.
NeusinhaGedoz said at 8:19 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
Liked this tabblo too. The surprise to find that old newspaper must have been very interesting. What good can be recorded such moments, not Mike? This is a different theme for Tabblo. Very good.
Charlespop said at 8:19 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
There is nothing like a tabblo with a dern good story. If GBS were a tabbloer he would be doing something like this . Thanks !
Eduardo.affonso said at 9:12 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
It's hard to believe someone would be able to link Mr. Shaw, you and Mrs. Weaver, but you did it...
Krisu said at 9:14 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
No ghosts in the attick, only some great photos and a good story from you Mike. Not to mention your delicious looking breakfast!! :D
Moabjeeper said at 9:16 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
What, no steamed tomato with breakfast? No invite? Nice story Mike.
FoguinhoFoto said at 9:32 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
Mike, interesting, very cool.
Wildthing said at 9:36 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
LARS: Most mornings I eat healthy stuff.
FARID: I know you would have enjoyed the breakfast.
MIRELLA: I only eat fod like this occasionally. Thank you for adoring me, but I'm not THAT intelligent:)
ROD: My breakfast seems to be the main event here:) As for Shaw. He was 94 when he died, after not recovering from a fall in his garden while pruning trees. A hardy old guy to be up trees at that age.
NEUSINHA: My father liked Shaws plays, but I had no idea that he had kept the newspaper cutting from way back in 1950. And I love to think of different themes for tabblo.
CHARLES: If Shaw had had a digi camera back then, I'm sure he would have taken superb pics to enthrall us with.
EDUARDO: I hadn't thought of that. I think that both Shaw and Weaver would be interesting guests to have round for a calorie-popping breakfast, with perhaps, Peter ustinoff, Oliver Reed, and Bertrand Russell.....That would make for fine conversation.
KRIS: I'm glad you liked it. hope you had a quick look at the link. Shaw was much more than a playwright.
BOB: Next Sunday I'll have fried tomato, fried bread, and Cumberland sausage with my eggs & bacon:)
Wildthing said at 9:49 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
Thanx, FOGUINHO. I imagine GBS was VERY cool, especially in this pic:)
Chaitiamma said at 10:01 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
Hi MIke, I am more keen on the untold story about your inexplicable experience. Please do a tabblo with a story about it ! Glad you have found treasure from your attic !!!
Sd14 said at 10:22 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
Hi Mike now i know you are mad as a hatter, you must preserve that book & the breakfast you must eat before it spoils, the tabblo is a great one as for the gorrila,s i realy miss them they may have been distant relations & that damned breakfast is making my mouth water,
Lifequest22 said at 10:55 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
Just back from the GBS Link. And now for the Ghost, the Gorillas, and that scrumptious breakfast in the mist. No, the breakfast wasn't in the mist. Duh. The gorillas and Sigourney Weaver were in the Mist. Or was it the Aliens in the mist. Oh, this is all getting very confusing... At least there were no "Flowers in the Attic" or Gorillas, Aliens, or "Toys in the Attic" ...well, you know what I mean.

Anyway---very cool find in the attic with all those giant spiders. That paper held up well for being nearly 60 years old. Ok--now I'm hungry.
Wildthing said at 10:55 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
DAVID: It would be a little hard to put pics with my real life ghost stories. Wish I'd had a camera when I actually saw one. But then, who would believe me. I think I have a reputation for making things up. Remember my tab, 'The Pastor's Last Picture' :)

JOE: Better than being too sane.:) Life is serious enough. You've got to laugh at it. Glad that my breakfast made your mouth water.
Wildthing said at 11:01 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
LINDA: Hope I didn't confuse you too much with the tab that got away. You forgot to mention the Judy Garland link......Somewhere over the rainbow. Go treat yourself to an all-day breakfast at the Flying J, and you'll be just fine:)
DanMan said at 11:29 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
This is very fine piece of momorabilia you recovered, Mike! You might want to make a poster of that newspaper on your wall. I like the rainbow shots! About food: I thought kabobs were unhealthy untill I got to see your breakfast! It's a men-killer meal!
Chilla said at 11:38 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
What a great find Mike! Not only that it has become great subject matter for your most interesting Tabblo!
Bravemoonbearer said at 11:45 a.m. on Sep 21, 2009:

The first photo's on this tabblo was sad. But its coming good on the end from this tabblo.
Wildthing said at 2:05 p.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
ANDREAS: Maybe that's my fault for adding shots of unrelated stuff to cheer up a doleful set:)

HENK: Yes, it goes from a little miserable to quite cheerful:)
Siagian said at 2:12 p.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
Mike, there's nothing like a good breakfast to conclude one's ghost-busting business! GBS is a legendary man and i like your sense of humor!
Wildthing said at 2:18 p.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
Thanks, WOODY. The main point of Tabblo for me is to have fun.
Tishfish said at 2:55 p.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
The sad thing in life is that everything that is good is either illegal, immoral or fattening. That sure looked good Mike ! ! ! !
Wildthing said at 3:01 p.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
It was, DOREEN:)
Jesusgoz said at 3:37 p.m. on Sep 21, 2009:

Wildthing said at 3:50 p.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
Thanks, JESUS.
Eduardo.affonso said at 9:00 p.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
You should add Oscar Wilde, Mark Twain, Salvador DalĂ and Mae West to your list. And Gretel's Granny, perhaps. Then your calorie-popping breakfast would be even more unmissable...

"The main point of Tabblo for me is to have fun". I could not agree more.
Ebucar said at 11:10 p.m. on Sep 21, 2009:
WOW! Seems like a treasure hunt! Miss the waffles... yummy..
Noe said at 12:01 a.m. on Sep 22, 2009:
This is really great Mike, excellent story, excellent tabblo and a lot of sence of humor.... oh! and delicious too! :o)
Wildthing said at 7:53 a.m. on Sep 22, 2009:
EDUARDO: Our table's legs would not bear the weight of the food that would be needed to feed Gretel's Granny. Maybe if I had them reinforced with steel struts, then she would be welcome. Wilde, Twain, Dali and Mae West would be ideal dinner guests.

ELIANE: I love treasure hunts. The waffles were scrumptious:)

NOE: I'm glad you liked the mix. I seem to drift off the theme a little. Damn those senior moments:)
RosaneMar said at 8:30 a.m. on Sep 22, 2009:
Mike, I enjoyed it at all, it was his breakfast and enhanced ... a sign that you need energy to make up your workday.
Wildthing said at 8:39 a.m. on Sep 22, 2009:
Thank you, ROSANE. After that breakfast, I needed work to burn off the calories:)
Debdog said at 2:22 p.m. on Sep 22, 2009:
what a find!!!!! and what a breakfast!!!!!!
Wildthing said at 4:41 p.m. on Sep 22, 2009:
I agree, DEB. The find was a surprise, and the breakfast was a nice treat:)
Leftofcenter said at 6:22 p.m. on Sep 22, 2009:
it's official, Fox, you're weird. this was like a trip to hell and back. from spiders to a healthy bowl of cereal, and I DID see the gorillas in spite of the mist, the "other" breakfast looks like a French Canadian breakfast with the beans, guess the Brits brought it over to this side of the Atlantic :) all in all a very entertaining tabblo.
Wildthing said at 6:31 p.m. on Sep 22, 2009:
Weird works for me, SCULLY. This tab turned into wot started off as a perfectly serious set into a trip down some crazy rabbit-hole. And there were NO beans in that cereal, just raisins, green and red grapes, banana, and strawberries. Wot do you have in the Colonies, jumping beans with your cornflakes? :)
Leftofcenter said at 6:36 p.m. on Sep 22, 2009:
those are beans on your plate, next to the eggs!!
Wildthing said at 6:45 p.m. on Sep 22, 2009:
Oh, that breakfast pic? Yeah, baked beans are a little traditional over here. Wot I had for breakfast seemed a lot more interesting to some than Shaw. Maybe i should just post pics of every meal I eat:)
Ira said at 2:25 p.m. on Sep 23, 2009:
Interesting find... The rainbow above a field is perfect! A delightful photo!
Wildthing said at 2:36 p.m. on Sep 23, 2009:
Thank you, IRA. I remember trying to find the end of a rainbow when I was a child. But I never did:)
Loes said at 6:13 p.m. on Sep 25, 2009:

AdSR said at 7:02 a.m. on Sep 26, 2009:
Great idea with changing the mood mid-tabblo. Plus, breakfast looking good.
Debdog said at 5:42 p.m. on Sep 26, 2009:
i came back for breakfast with the deceased... :) and your USUAL breakfast looks yummy too!!!!!! I'm hungry!
