The Old Village Church of Bleiswijk

The Reformed Community has a beautiful historic church that also determines the face of Bleiswijk.

The village church is on the monuments list and in 1973 and in 2002, after attack by the Death watch beetle, restored and decorated.

The history of the village church starts between 1242 and 1276, a period in which the area by the Count of Holland spent on exploration.

The soft peat land on which the church was built is there a history of subsidence, demolition and rebuilding. In 1532 the plan of the church received its present form. The year 1668 of the bar in the middle vessel refers to the increase of the vessel to the height of the choir that year.

A comprehensive restoration with a final pile-driving work took place from 1971-1973.

Depletion of the woodwork by the Death watch beetle necessitated a second restoration phase in 2002.

This also included the restoration of the text boards and the preacher sign boards and the original colours of the 17th century were applied.

I just read that thanks to the efforts of countless volunteers, donations (in cash and products) of the local middle class and the wonderful weather they had a top proceeds of € 24,000!!

The proceeds of the autumn market goes to 2 goals, namely the Pallieterburght in Capelle aan de IJssel and maintenance of the village church.

Pallieterburght is a children's hospice for serious (incurable), or chronically ill children from the South-West Netherlands.
