Do people often carry around swords with them?

Ericf, If you are taking part in the Kaichu Inari Shrine sharpshooters event (held once every two years ) you bet you need to bring along your handy dandy samurai sword or a long rifle . Outside of this festival......in Japan there is even strick knife control. There are many kinds of knifes that are illegal. Even the guards of trucks transporting money are not allowed to carry any guns. (they carry clubs )..... Last year over 30,000 people were murdered in the US. Last year about 200 people were murdered in Japan.(Ok, the US is bigger...... with about 300 million people and Japan only has about 125 million.....but still .....you get the picture. )
