The Old Farm

On the wall in my Grandma's living room hangs a picture of an old farm house. In July of 2008 I was finally able to visit the house in the picture.

We were all curious to see what the inside was like after so many years.

We climbed through the fallen porch that led to a tiny old kitchen.

The house was full of all kinds of things.

From old appliances, crates, tins, even old barrels were stuffed inside.

There was no shortage of garbage either. Paper carpeted the practically every floor in the house. Pages of catalogues and news papers could be found. The mess and condition clearly showing how long it had been forgotten.

Behind the door we entered was what I thought to be a kitchen closet, but turned out to be the stairs to the second floor.

Upstairs looked more unstable than the main floor. The roof had breaks and holes in it. The center of the room was covered with old carpeting, wood, and dirt. Under all that debris the floor looked like it was rotting away. The flower wallpaper was faded from the weather and peeling off the walls, but this mess did not stop us from having fun!

Staying on the flooring we felt was safe we crept as close to the window as possible to look out and get a picture.

Back on the main floor we found the outlines of a trap door in the hall. After rummaging around to find the handle, and using a pole for leverage we got the door open and went down to explore the cellar. The stairs looked steep and shaky, but they were quite sturdy.

In the cellar the only light came from up the stairs and a few small windows.

There were two small rooms off the main space in the basement. All with dirt flooring. Again we saw old buckets, tins, track, and wooden crates. And in the center of the main room was an old rusted furness.

This tiny old house was full of big adventures, but after exploring we all all felt the need for a bath!!
