Lovely photos, Neusinha. These apple figures are cute.

Hi Fabio, These numbers look soooo small. Have a look at the world's apple production in 2006: Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_apple_production
That looks truly impressive. E.g. China 26,065,500 metric tons. I wondered a bit, because Central Europe's biggest fruit production area (14,300 ha, approx 900 fruit farms) is bordering the south western side of Hamburg and the river Elbe. They produce well over 300,000 tons/year only in that area, which is about 25-30 % of Germany's total. A beautiful area to visit, by the way, especially in May, when the trees are blooming.

Hi Anke, You made a very good point! Production is much larger, as you have pointed out. The numbers I have used are for exports only. Your area must be even more attractive with the apple trees blooming - it must be a gigantic orchard! We don't have apples in Louisiana, but pecans. Thanks so much for your comments! Have a great day!

The Brazil stands out as one of the largest producers of fruit. The states of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina participate as a major producer of fruits of temperate climate, and the apple as the main representative. In recent years Brazil has taken the leading position in the global production of apples, from the condition of the importer to self-sufficient and an exporter.

According to a survey by the Brazilian Association of Apple Producers - ABPM in 2008 Fraiburgo accounted for just over 30% of the state of Santa Catarina, the equivalent of 141,736 tonnes of the total of 463,759 tonnes were harvested from the orchards of Santa Catarina. Therefore, the production of Fraiburgo represents more than 16% of national production and 30% of Santa Catarina. (The photos in this tabblo were clicked in Fraiburgo).

When I went to work yesterday morning, I spotted from the bus a huge football sized yellow red apple hanging from the roof of a market stand, inviting to have a closer look at this year's harvest. You would have loved that as addition for your tabblo, Neusinha. Such a funny coincidence. Only half an hour before I had my first look at your tabblo :-)

Thanks for providing the additional information!
