I had a chance of enjoying the scenic spots in North of Thailand. 15th of October, we started off at Bhumipol Dam, Thailand's largest dam located some 60 kilometres north of Tak city in Amphoe Sam Ngao, and blocks the Mae Ping River. The extensive reservoir forms a picturesque lake that extends northwards to Chiang Mai's Hot districts.

The barges are docked at the river bank of Sam Ngao, waiting for the passengers, bound for different districts in the north. We were bound for Doi Tao, so we expected a sail stretch of around 140 kms. starting at 7am, which took us around 24 hours to reach Doi Tao at 8 am the next day. We had to dock for a while at one point for the midnight til we moved again at around 4 am. |

|
The barge was pulled interchangeably by two small tug boats which took turns every hour. |

|
Best parts of the trip were the scenic mountains and rock formations. In some spots there were small waterfalls cascading from the mountains. The water lilies in some portions made a refreshing sight too, although at times the tug boat found hard time to sail through a lily covered surface.

Hope you enjoyed the trip. :D |
