Braşov, Transylvania

I have been scanning old photos, taken long before digital cams existed (a period also known as "the Neolithic age")

and when I still used my Praktica  (R.I.P.!)  merely to register my trips.

This is Braşov, in Transylvania ( homeland of that famous Count who - just like me... - loved long necks)

(No, I am not talking about beer!).

I went to his castle, in Bran, but it was late afternoon (vampires & sun are not a perfect match, you know),

and the pics didn't come out very good. Have to get there again...

for Crînguţa,

a passionate and talented Romanian movie maker

who sometimes visits my tabblos (but never leaves any comment...)

Dear Eduardo, You are like a traveling History Teacher, Now You can compile it all into a travel Book! Always fun to learn, Obrigada, Robbi

Parabéns pelas imagens Eduardo...muito bom!!!

A pity you couldn't get any photos of the Count, Edu. Although I would think that if vampires have no reflection in mirrors, then the same would apply to camera lenses:) Nice shots.

Fascinantes esos colores terrosos...

Obrigado.

Its nice to travel to so many places. Great shots !!!

Thank you, guys! Visiting Transylvania was an old dream of mine - and the place (obviously!) has nothing do to with vampires. Brasov is full of history, beautiful architecture, great food and nice people.

By the way, Vlad Ţepeş (aka Vlad the Impaler, who inspired Bram Stocker's novel "Dracula") lived in Wallachia, not in Transylvania...

MIKE: Of course vampires can be photographed! Haven't you seen my avatars, and the tabblos Charles made during my stay in Japan??

JANE: It's just a coincidence that these pics were posted during Halloween. Or not??

Merci Edu.

Edu the vampire roaming in the cemeteries! (it's almost Halloween...) I like these small European countries, scanned or not scanned, great pics as always (it's the perspective right?)
Swedfinn said at 5:04 p.m. on Oct 28, 2009:
I havent seen many pictures on tabblo from this area on Tabblo. These countries have certainly many interesting things to show up. Happy hallowee Eduardo!
Leftofcenter said at 5:06 p.m. on Oct 28, 2009:
what amazes me about this tabblo is where did you find the "s" with the thingy hanging on to it?? that's a "cédille" in French, but I only have it hanging on to the "c" as so: ç
(was this an interesting smart comment?)
Eduardo.affonso said at 5:50 p.m. on Oct 28, 2009:
ANNELIES: Your comments are always smart, even when they seem to be just brilliant. Romanian alphabet has the cedilla also hanging on the T (ț, sounding "ts", like in "pizza") and on the S (ş, sounding "sh"), but not on C. Both T and S can have also comma, instead of cedilla (the sound is the same). I am sure you have all these signs on your keyboard - all you have to do is find them...

JORMA: There are some great Romanian tabblos, by Marius and Ciudi, Sean (Grandbrother) and a few other people. Check the group "Romania", and you will find some interesting stuff.

CARPENIGHT (whoever you are), SONIA, GAÚ, THIERRY & KARINE: Thanks for commenting.
Leftofcenter said at 5:54 p.m. on Oct 28, 2009:
nope, I looked before I asked, I don't have that letter on my keyboard. you must have an INTERNATIONAL keyboard!
Eduardo.affonso said at 6:32 p.m. on Oct 28, 2009:
Of course I do! You can easily download those letters (and also Greek, Cyrilic, Czech, Swedish etc etc alphabets) and add them to your keyboard. But I will give you a tip: find any text in Romanian (or Czech, Swedish, whatever) and simply copy & paste the symbols / letters you need. It's an easy and very effective way to impress your friends and make them keep visiting your tabs again and again.
Leftofcenter said at 6:39 p.m. on Oct 28, 2009:
ok- I won't tell anyone.

At first I thought you were in Europe.................I like your photos, but I adore your comments, they always (or almost always) make me smile. Thanks. By the way, I was in Tansilvania: I agree, it's a beautiful country, I hope people will come soon to a confortable life there. Ciao

Arre! Fiquei arrepiada só de pensar!
Ebucar said at 9:05 p.m. on Oct 28, 2009:
Esqueci de perguntar no meu comentário anterior: "Você agora anda dedicando tabblo até a quem não conhece?" LOL.
Eduardo.affonso said at 9:18 p.m. on Oct 28, 2009:
ELIANE: Como assim, pra quem não conheço? Nos conhecemos há algumas décadas, lá na Transilvânia mesmo, nos reencontramos em Paris anos depois, é uma longa história, com direito a cartas apaixonadas e tudo. Mas o tempo fez o que o tempo sempre faz, e agora o contato se limita a visitas silenciosas ao tabblo, de vez em quando.

MIRELLA: I loved Romania (Bucharest, Brasov, Suceava...), and would like to visit it again. Things must have changed a lot since then. I will let you know next time I go to Europe - maybe we can have an espresso or a capuccino and talk a little bit in Italian. Ciao, carissima!
Ebucar said at 6:30 a.m. on Oct 29, 2009:
Talvez eu tenha passado muito rápido pelo tabblo e não tenha visto/lido toda a estória por detrás dessas fotos...
É... "o tempo faz o que o tempo sempre faz"...

Annelies, I think you can change your keyboard from the "control panel/language options" in your computer.

Edu, sometimes I wonder, where you have not been. You seemed to have travelled to every imaginable little dot on the world's map. How about Albania?
These pictures of Transilvania have a wonderful historic touch to them. Not to mention the town looks lovely and well worth visiting. Thanks for scanning them.
