SOUTHGATE MALL, EDMONTON, ALBERTA

“Immense Mode” is a brick and glass mosaic sculpture that was chosen through a juried selection process to be the public art component of the new transit centre in south Edmonton. The legs stand six metres--about 20 feet tall --and use about 7,600 individual bricks. Each leg weighs about 9.5 tonnes, or 21,000 pounds. $95,000 price tag has a few people grumbling..but not me!

COMPETING IN THE 2010 WINTER OLYMPICS AND THE SUMMER OLMYPICS IN RIO !

For the tired and weary commuter these legs offer 'flights of fancy' for the imagination.

Cover of murder mystery "Stalking the Lonely Commuter"...or 60's flashback.

Annelies this is at the Southgate mall. You take bus #33 from West Edmonton mall [the largest Mall in Canada] and are at Southgate in about 15 minutes [i commute to work downtown and i'm getting very good at knowing bus routes] and yes, I played w/my tool box of 'add ons' for the skates, etc. I was telling my daughter how kids are putting their facebook page adddress/emails on the bricks and she got so upset! i said, it was people's art ---unlike places where you pay to get you name on a brick, the masses can do it for free here. she just glowered at me and lectured me on vandalism of art. Sometimes i think i'm the teenager in this relationship.

This is so interesting, Shirl! I used to live in South Edmonton so I know exactly where Southgate Mall is. I love the sculpture!

Cathy, tnx for you comments. Noreen, the mall at Southgate has been remodelled. The LRT trains will finally get there this winter. Of course, this being Edmonton, there is the usual grousing about taxpayer dollars better spent on potholes. For those of us going 'green'...keep making our bus / lrt centres more attractive
