Izakaya = Japanese tapas-bar-bistro-type restaurant in my book :-)
I am glad they are mushrooming in the Bay Area, coz I love the delicacies we sampled yesterday and we are definitely going to make the round of all the Izakayas in the neighbourhood !!! :-)
We LOVE En's decor, great food and nice service !! didn't get to try the sake though :-(
To start out we had grilled duck with green onions - it was pretty good although we did spice it up with some ichimi togarashi.

|
Next came the grilled beef tongue ... Yum.
We couldn't keep our eyes off ... the beef tongue salad at the next table :-) It looks so good (duly noted for next time) |
|
Then came the spicy clam and (oyster) shrimp hot pot. It was SPECTACULAR !!! Yum.

And the Aji (spanish mackerel) tatami or something like that ... oh ok titaki it is: a tartare that is super fresh and yummy. The fish head and curved body are taken away, deep-fried and brought back for a quick snack for those who like fish head, eye balls, and tail :-) |

|
This next dish - pen clam sauteed in butter is also faaabulous !!
The uni, roe and egg over rice in a stone pot reminds me of risotto which I never developed a taste for ... so there you have it.
There are a lot more dishes to try, some very exotic sounding like braised kinky fish (or is it kinki?), chicken cartilage, octopus pancake, etc. etc.

And we still have Sumika, Saizo, Tanto, and Gochi to try !! Oh boy :-P |
