The sissies I work with...

As we get ready to see Jack Bauer come back to make his sixth year of standing against all of the evil in the world with nothing but his manliness, I thought I would take a moment to highlight some of the other manliness I see on an everyday basis at Tabblo— not!

So there we were doing some some work on a normal Thursday afternoon when all of the sudden Eddie spied a mouse scurrying under our little refrigerator. Now before going any further, let me just say this: we don't exactly have the highest rents in Cambridge at our office (for instance on Christmas eve, we shared a moment with some rats that like to run races in our drop ceiling) but to see a mouse so close to our primary food preparation area was... er sort of worth doing something about.

The first thing everyone decided to do was really verify that there was indeed a mouse under the fridge (it's a bit like the old joke: how many software engineers...?).

In this picture, they are all playing a version of "Where is my contact lens?" Notice how Matt is keeping a safe distance (much safer than say Tianna) because he was just convinced that you could "catch things" from mice.

I was particularly struck by what the world must be feeling like for this mouse after I flashed him with 4 people on hands and knees literally "rocking his world."

In the end there was indeed a little mouse under the fridge. I had to risk life and limb by sticking my arm and camera under the tilted fridge to capture this nature shot of it, and let me tell you: a) I'm sure I caught things (but probably more from the old Chinese food the mouse was eating) and b) I think I felt it's carnivore teeth grazing the veins in my wrist.

Suffice it to say that when I left the office nearly an hour later, the gang was still on the mouse hunt. Armed with barcode guns, Tabblo packing tape, and a few shipping boxes (who knows? your next order could come with a special little surprise), they were busily setting a trap that would make the crocodile hunter proud.

Heh heh. Is that why Matt is wearing gloves too--fear of germs? The poor little thing looks so harmless in the pictures, but we had a brave mouse at one time in our house in Rochester that would run right out from under the stove while I was cooking dinner or washing dishes. Believe me, I let out my fair share of "eek"s until we caught the little guy. Yeah, mice are not my favorite creatures.

Ha - maybe you guys need a resident cat there at Tabblo to help keep those pesky rodents at bay! I live next to a horse barn and have had a few mice sneak on over and visit the warmth of our house in the last two years - I scream nearly every time I see them too! Good luck on "The Great Mouse Hunt!"
By the way - love the gloves on Matt there!

I teach in an inner city high school and we always have mice, they have hot fry crumbs on their whiskers and suffer from other signs of poor nutrition, you little guy looks very healthy. Once one ate a cough drop in someones desk drawer, we were all on the look-out for a mouse with a sore throat.
