The City Views are painted in the tradition of the vedute painting. The majority (over 450) are done in the technique of etchings or algraphs with motifs from Berlin and the surrounding area, which are painted exclusively in watercolor. The number of the original editions are generally about 50. Hereby, precision is of immense importance to Sterzenbach. His work is characterized by a "very clear idyllic realism". The pictures are made copying photos or sketches outdoors or in his studio. Then they are elaborated in the studio using Vernis Mou- and Cold-Point Engraving. In some cases the Aquatinta-Technique is applied. City Views from Europe or the world are mostly painted in watercolor or as ink drawings and partially veered, a method which is much easier to apply during travels. |

I am a german painter who creates realistic views of Berlin and its surroundings as well as figurativ, abstract and surrealistic pictures: self-willed dream figures (men, animals, sculptures, rock formations, etc.). Strange and bewitched creatures come into existence, which defy description. Theese magical, surrealistic images have a suggestive effect on the spectator. By different techniques like frottage, decalcomany, imprimitation etc. structures come into existence, which I assemble into fantasy figures, without having an exact imagination of what is emerging. It is quite a different world where you have to engage in as a spectator. If you are interested please visit my tabblo Fantastic World. |
