The still lives contain predominantly utensils, flowers, rarely animals, which are concerning the contents arranged and/or combined. As technology I use in general the technique of watercolor predominantly, in addition, Caparol, oil on canvas, as well as pastel. With the still lives it goes first around strange things like foreign fruits (see my picture of "pomegranates"), precious weapons and decoration articles. The recital of the facts goes thus in the equal step with the study of the nature and the collecting passion, whose results are today still received with the royal rare piece cabinets of the Renaissance and the baroque at some places. Nature morte calls the Frenchmen the quiet life. It is from the Vanitas symbolism only a small step up to the representation of the "last things": Death, life light, last hour, the balance of the recent court, the seven mortal sins "Finis gloriae mundi". The objective reference to the other world has its figurative origin in the Middle Age.

Already in that gothic cathedral sculpture reminds at the portal often in connection with Adam and Eva at the beginning of the creation also a dead head (see my picture "Cranium of a Death on a Wooden Block" and "Grinning death", human framework or bones to the end of all terrestrial one. The dead dance, the resurrection contains the same purchase to the transitoriness of this world. In the 16./17.century the Vanitas (= transitoriness) - symbolism becomes links with the symbol world of the artistic work as reference to the transitoriness of the fame and futile striving for surviving in the artistic work. New symbols of the transitoriness emerge: The dead fish (see picture “Two Fishes on bamboo-cane”), the flickering candle light (see picture "Candlestick with Pipe”), the fallen down jug, the instrument, whose clay/tone grew silent, putrid-ends fruits, money, map and cube play, the sand glass running off, the mirror, which cannot record the beauty, weapons of a struck battle, books, which want to hold the life.
