liberte d'expression

The aim of art, the aim of a life, can only be to increase the sum of freedom and responsibility to be found in every man and in the world.  It cannot, under any circumstances, be to reduce or suppress that freedom....no great work has ever been based on hatred and contempt.  On the contrary, there is not a single true work of art that has not in the end added to the inner freedom of each person who has known and loved it...

Albert Camus

French existentialist author & philosopher (1913 - 1960)

Superbe hommage à Albert Camus. Les premiers grands livres que j'ai lus étaient les siens, L'Etranger, la Peste. J'avais 17 ans. Ils m'ont marqué. Bravo et merci Pam, amitiés.

This photo moves me more than any has in as long as I can remember. It's reaches in and grabs someplace very core. Wow!
Eduardo.affonso said at 5:31 p.m. on Jan 31, 2007:
This goes far beyond photography. Some things can be said only by words, some things can be said only by images. Here you used image and words to transcend all that, and say more than they could do by themselves. I totally agree with Mtorourke. And I just love the colors, fonts, layout, the whole concept.

Pamela, this is a wonderful Tabblo, images and words. Not everyone loves every single piece of art, but for those whom it touches, it is magic.
TavarES said at 6:37 p.m. on Jan 31, 2007:
Everything what is art, it transmits freedom. If it will not inside have of any person this feeling, it will never obtain to show its soul. Beautiful photo, Pamela!

Art is not a handicraft, it is the transmission of feeling the artist has experienced.

Engelgrafik said at 8:58 a.m. on Feb 1, 2007:
To me, art is about intuition and less about tradition. A skilled person chooses a medium and makes art of that "type" and medium, it becomes a tradition of skill so-to-speak. We respect "painters", "photographers", "scultptors", etc.. for their skill and tradition. An artist, however, finds an IDEA and THEN figures out how to do it... what medium to use, how to express it, etc. It is intuitive... it is truly fine art! Great job Pam... wow... this is true ART. I would love to see this in person to see the detail and everything and try to figure out for myself what it means to me.
Katkee said at 9:19 a.m. on Feb 1, 2007:
ditto, engelgrafik! ~ wish i had done this. this is true art.
Pkeener said at 9:40 a.m. on Feb 1, 2007:
Wow Everybody, it was my intention to provoke thought, but all of your responses are amazing. I had taken this photograph a while back and knew I wanted to use it in a Tabblo, but it just wouldn't present itself in my head. I have been thinking of all of the political Tabblos lately and how they strike a nerve in all of us, so I just wanted to convey a message in my own way. The freedom of expression is the most important thing we, as artists, must be able to feel in order to create. THANKYOU ALL for viewing and EXPRESSING yourselves by leaving your thoughts and also by creating YOUR own wonderful, beautiful, thought provoking, fun, and awe inspiring Tabblos.

this is amazing, Pam! and i love this quote!!
Liliana said at 8:14 p.m. on Feb 1, 2007:
Camus is also perfect!!!! As your photo is, too!
Of course, art is art only if it is free, if it is not... it can be something... nice, practice, amusing, a lot of things, but not art.
Memotions said at 8:17 p.m. on Feb 1, 2007:
This is indeed thought provoking. What a social commentary. Even without your words, the figure facing the shadowed wall with his hands against it says it all. Freedom of expression should not be stifled. Kudos to you!
Memotions said at 8:20 p.m. on Feb 1, 2007:
.....although the words were not your own, I understood that the quote expressed your thoughts. Good choice to accompany the art. (just felt I should clarify that....)

Here's one I missed. Must make the time to see more of your work that I haven't yet. This picture is stark & in some way troubling. To me this is a woman trapped in a life that she wants to break free from. It is mesmerising. I see so much quiet anguish. Since Camus' death, a dark side of art has emerged that I do not view as responsible.......Then again, were artists like Bosch responsible with their depiction of demonic atrocities? Great stand alone shot, Pam.
