Island Dreaming

This paradise is Ilha do Pelado (Pelado Island), halfway between Angra dos Reis and Paraty, about 250 km from Rio. I'm going to be hired do design a resort and a condo in this wonderful place. My challenge is finding a way not to break such harmony.

I thank my friends Carlos Lemos and Carlos Lemos Jr. for this trip - and for the invitation to do this job.

This tabblo is dedicated to our dear friend, great traveller, talented photographer Thierry (aka Chiloedrem), the man who writes poems instead of comments.

Grand BRAVO, grand MERCI mon cher ami.
Chiloedream said at 8:09 a.m. on Jan 29, 2007:

Very beautiful landscapes, Eduardo. I like the subtle way in which you combined the green, yellow and blue from the Brasil flag in the first image.

Good luck with your project.

This is a wonderful pictoral..EDUARDO! I love the opening shot whith the perspective of yellow rail out to the horizon and then you take us through the day to the last shot, so nice with the toddler walking in the sand. I like pic #8 over the shoulder of the boy, the pic with the shells piled in the corner, and the red wheel, and , well all of them are so sweet. I am waiting for the Grand Opening! Congradulations on your new project!

The mountains, the scenery are gorgeous, your pictures have captured Beauty. It's paradise on earth. What's the shortest way to get there ?

Eduardo, these photos are beautiful, looks like a great place
Eduardo.affonso said at 5:15 p.m. on Jan 30, 2007:
Thanks, ANDERS. It's not really difficult to take beautiful pics in such wonderful place.

LATENTE: Wish I could be paid to stay there, but all my work will be done at my office, miles away from that paradise. I'll find a way to visit it as much as possible - wouldn't you?

MARIUS: This is "Ilha do Pelado" (Pelado Island). "Pelado" means naked, hairless - but I don't really know why it is called this way. I know I'm getting bald, but I'm sure it was not named after me.

SHEILA: I agree - paradise must be like this, but lasting forever...

MON CHER THIERRY: I thought of you as soon as I arrived at Pelado Island, because of the bateaux, the landscape, that "thierryesque" atmosphere (and a group of French tourists!)... I told myself "Thierry would make great photos here". So it was natural that I dedicated these photos to you. I've learned a lot from you: I learn every time I see your photos, I try to emulate your technique, I try to learn some French. Of course you deserve more than this, and I'm touched with your kind, warm comments. Take this as a humble homage!

JEFF: All you have to do is go the nearest airport and fly to Rio!

MONICA: I do hope my project will not disturb such beauty. I'm afraid I can't fly all of you down to Pelado Island, but I promisse to wait for you at the Rio International Airport.

PAOLO: This area is known as Costa Verde (Green Coast) and it's famous for its beauty. Hope I'll visit some mor islands and share this paradise with all of you (who are now freezing, as far as I know).

CHARLES & TERESA: Welcome to my tabblos! I'm glad you enjoyed this one.

RETA & ANJA: This is a great opportunity and I won't miss it. By the way, that's interesting that both of you called me... Antonio! That's the name I would have given to my son if had had one... Hope Experience and the Tabblo administrator won't get jealous (they are the real Antonios).

PAUL: You're a sharp observer, meu prieten. Not many people (but those who love football) know our national colors or have already seen our flag. By the way, I have a shirt that is exactly like Romanian flag (blue, yellow and red stripes) - and I took it to my Romanian trip without knowing that...

PAM: I'll send you an invitation for the "grand opening", don't worry!

HY HOA: Merci, merci beaucoup! I guess you are one of those virtual navigateurs amoreux des mers tropicales, too. And you're right: these clear waters relly remind me of Cape Verde.

NOE: Gracias, amigo.

LEFTOFCENTER: Is my poor French really perfect? Wow! These online translators are getting better - I was afraid my text would be a disaster. I envy you: you live in one of the most interesting cities I've ever visited. Montreal is just great (no matter how cold it might be!).

DEE: You are welcome anytime! Wish me luck, because I'll need it - plus talent and hard work.

TAMMY: Why don't you take vacations and come to Brazil? You'll see that it's easy to make some dreams come true...

LUCE: The easiest way to get there is... being my friend! The shortest way is: take a flight to Rio, then rent a car and drive 250 km South. Stop by São Gonçalo Beach, then take a boat (10 minutes) and.... welcome to paradise! I'll keep posting more photos of this place (and the area nearby) just to keep your mouth watering.

ANTONIO: Grazie! I wish I could have make a more attractive layout, but I was anxious to "deliver" this...

MEMOTIONS: You used the perfect word: "rhythm". There's no noise here, but the rhythm of the waves, mountains, clouds, time passing by so slowly. Welcome to my tabblos!

JIGS: I'll count on you during this project! I've seen some interesting samples of pinoy architecture and there are several elements that I'd like to use here. Our landscapes and climate are very similar, so I plan to research a bit more. Any sugestions?

ABKING: I hope I'll post photos of the buildings sooner than you can imagine. Don't worry: I'll leave a special part of the beach reservated for your sleeping bag!

JASON: Almost as beautiful as Boracay, don't you agree?
Liliana said at 5:26 p.m. on Jan 30, 2007:
¡Meu caro amigo, quanto trabalho manter o Tabblo!
Chiloedream said at 5:28 p.m. on Jan 30, 2007:

¿Ilha do Pelado sería Ilha do Nu...?¿O tiene otro significado...?
Eduardo.affonso said at 6:26 p.m. on Jan 30, 2007:
SCHARN: Yes, this is really a lovely place. Wish I could have stayed there for all the weekend.
Eduardo.affonso said at 6:29 p.m. on Jan 30, 2007:
Vou tentar descobrir.
Eduardo.affonso said at 6:47 p.m. on Jan 30, 2007:
Hope one day you'll visit this part of Brazil and enjoy our hospitality. By the way, I wish you a very happy trip to Marocco!
Paul said at 6:54 p.m. on Jan 30, 2007:
:) Thanks, Eduardo. Sorry if I'll dissapoint you, but I have no interest in football. :). Funny thing about your tshirt :) When did you visit Romania?
Eduardo.affonso said at 7:12 p.m. on Jan 30, 2007:
PAUL: It was a long time ago, last century... in 1996, I guess. I visited Italy, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey. Couldn't spend much time in Romania, but visited Bucuresti, Brasóv, Poiana-Brasóv, one city which name I just can't remember now (where several people where killed on Christmas, a few days before Ceaucescu was deposed), Suceava and the monasteries. Wish I could have visited some more places, like Sibiu. Maybe next time...
Liliana said at 7:45 p.m. on Jan 30, 2007:
Mashpee_Paula said at 6:21 a.m. on Jan 31, 2007:
Breathtaking pictures of such a beautiful island! Your pictures portray all the beauty this island has to offer. All of my favorite things are here; the sea, beautiful skies, mountains.....peace and harmony! I believe you will design a unique, exquisted resort, without destroying the "feel "for this treasured place. Thank you, Eduardo. :)
Mashpee_Paula said at 6:42 a.m. on Jan 31, 2007:

Hey "Tio Du",

I Hope you will find the delicate balance between preservation and development, which will pave your project's way. Pics are great as always.
Liliana said at 3:36 p.m. on Jan 31, 2007:
¿Qué pasó con las estrellas...?
Eduardo.affonso said at 4:10 p.m. on Jan 31, 2007:

PAULA: A resort completely surrounded by nature and being part of it - that's my goal. And I'll do my best to make it happen. I had already dedicated tabblos to some of our friends, and this was meant for notre cher Thierry because it portrays things he loves: the sea, boats, mountains. Well, now I notice it could have been dedicated to you, too!

MÁRIO: I do hope it, too. Thanks for the "as always". A gente fazemos o que podemos...
Liliana said at 6:02 p.m. on Jan 31, 2007:
Liliana said at 6:03 p.m. on Jan 31, 2007:
Liliana said at 6:17 p.m. on Jan 31, 2007:
Mashpee_Paula said at 7:02 p.m. on Jan 31, 2007:

After being at his people should be required to see this Tabblo to feel all happy again! Thanks for sharing!

Wonderfully calm and beautiful pictures Eduardo. What a great place, it's almost a shame to think that a resort and condo will be built there, but it seems that you have in mind the beauty of the place and wish to design something to blend and perhaps enhance this idyllic place.
I really like the photo of the yellow boat with the mountains wreathed in cloud in the background, I think it's No.5 in the sequence. They are all so lovely, it makes me wish i could just walk along that lovely beach and dip my toes into that calm water, and enjoy the surrounding mountains. I always love beach shots, and also like mountains, so here we have the best of both worlds. Thanks for sharing and good luck in your venture.

WOW, this is going to be a challenging and probably one of the most exciting thing you do in your life. Wow, this will affect so many things in Nature. Striking a balance will be a challenge but I BELIEVE you can make it. Most importantly is to show the Before and After. And the on the way the transformation of the island too, if possible. I have faith in you my friend, nothing is possible if you believe in it. All the best for the project. ;P

Eduardo.affonso said at 4:22 p.m. on Feb 5, 2007:
JILL: Thanks! I hope it will keep being a paradise after my project is finished...

NANCY & EMA & LAURA: Thanks, thanks, thanks. I have a good team of architects working with me, and we all care about preservation. I'm glad this project is ours, so we can do our best to prove that it's possible to build without distroying the nature.

SIMON: Hope I'll soon post our first sketches and ideas, so you can give me your opinion. Thanks for your support!

INGRID: Wish I could move my office to that place, too!

PAM: Instead of coming to the tabblo, why don't you come to the island itself? There aren't direct flights from Denver to Pelado, but two stops in NY and Rio wouldn't be that bad...

SANJAY: Thanks! Wait until the resort is finished, and then come here to enjoy the beach, warm pristine water and, of course, the great spa I'll design...

BCMOM: Thanks! And welcome to my tabblos.

VERONICA: This area is called "The Green Coast", and nature is really exuberant here.

RAJANIGANDHA: Thanks, the place is really breathtaking - my pics don't do justice to it.

SHEILA: Thanks for visiting my tabblos! I have never been to Costa Rica but I know its landscape is very similar to ours (tropical forest, luxurious vegetation, mountains by the sea...).

MEMOTIONS: Thanks! I was very surprised to be "tabblo of the day" because this tabblo had been posted some days earlier. Well, better late than never.

DR. GARIBALDI: It's the perfect place to get LOST - and never be found!

JOAN: Thank you very much for your comment! It's a great responsability to deal with such difficult question: how to touch that untouchable beauty, how to place a house or a hotel without breaking this subtle balance. But be sure I'll do my best to deserve my diploma!
KELLY: Thanks for recommending that great tabblo. It inspired me to make my next tabblo ("True stories").

ANDERS: You gave me luck! You were the first one to visit this tabblo, and it became "Tabblo of the Day". Keep being the first!!

SHIRL: Hope this will be the first of a series!

PAULA: You do deserve it, my friend.
