this is what pained me today.

i took my niece paopao to the zoo today. all was going well until we saw these poor creatures in their dirty, rusty cages without proper food or clean water. i felt so sad that these beautiful animals are subjected to this kind of treatment. you can see the sadness in their eyes and the way this orangutan was reaching out to the people for food said so much about how badly they are being treated.  a zoo is supposed to be looking after the welfare of these animals. i guess zoo does not realize that it is not doing its job. this is what pained me today.

As you say, you can see the sadness in their eyes. Looking at your pictures, I can feel the sadness too. And it doesn't have to be this way. There are many ways to make sure that these captived animals do have a good life.

It is very sad, Jason. You captured it so well...with your camera we can all see their sadness and the cruelty of their living conditions.

Makes me sick to my stomach to see this treatment - send these shots to your local animal welfare groups or the newspaper. Thanks for sharing this sad but noteworthy situation. :-(

"a zoo is supposed to be looking after the welfare of these animals"--you hit the nail on the head there. These are indeed sad pictures.

Jason, you should send this to the persons in charge of the zoo and the apes and monkeys. Get prints and put them up on lampposts outside ticket booth.

Actually felt like crying when I saw this. Animal cruelty really kills me. Nicely taken Jason. I hope someday these animals will live the life they deserve.

these magnificent creatures should be in the wild. but i hope zoos will continue to provide education on animal-appreciation. i also hope that zoos are WELL FUNDED and WELL ORGANIZED.

This is really painful. Humans don't have the right to do that, no matter under which excuses.
