A few years ago there was an article in American Photo about a photographer who created a vast collection of photos taken through a window in his NYC home. The small selection of photos that were shown were beautiful b/w and offered further proof that it's the photographer's eye and not the subject that makes a beautiful photo.
While looking out my window a few months ago I remembered that article and decided to give it a try-- an attempt to find something unseen in the decade that I've been looking through these windows.
It's a work in progress and I hope to see better with more practice. It's too easy to shoot the obvious instead of looking deeper and finding something interesting in the ordinary. That's a habit I'm trying to break, but sometimes the obvious is cool if not always worthy of the goal. |
