Dream of the Deep (Dream in Orange)

The fishtank at the restaurant was so alluring: backlit water, acid-green and thick with noise, and the bright red-orange fat little fluffy-finned goldfishes, still as rocks but for an occasional pan of the eye.

Of course I wanted to photograph this.

Of course the moment I approached the tank the fish darted back into the murk. Impossible to photograph!  Flash was out of the question, poor things, but without it they were ghosts, "is something there?" lurking behind the thick water.

And of course the brilliant green of the water is a trick of the light at a distance; up close it's not the same.

Still, the fish were so beautiful, their fan tails fanning, their fins, like scarves, unfurling so delicately.

Eventually, they came forward. A bit. But they were still skittish.

So this is what I got.

Very colorful. I saw the tail on flickr and would've guessed it was a goldfish. A nice abstract, though.

I like the layout. My roommate has a fish named Lou. He's a strange one, he likes to float at the top upside down. He isn't dead, he just enjoys it.

Lou likes to fake people out, maybe? They're smarter than we think...:-) I had two goldfish for a while, their names were Manuel and Cher. I felt guilty keeping them in a box, I wanted to return them. But my friend told my they'd just get sold as food in that case, so I gave them to another friend. They still lived in a box after that but I didn't have to watch them every day!

Very nice. Dreamy and relaxing. I have some friends who have goldfish and I'm sending them the link.

Reminds me of DUNE a little bit... these must be pictures of the GUILDFISH NAVIGATOR who eats fish spice melange which accelerates evolution and allows him to fold space and time. Yep, all in that little aquarium. And nobody knows but me.
