SNOW FORT

Max and Ben and I made this snow fort today.  Ben had wanted to make a snowman, but the snow was all wrong for it.  We'd had about a foot of snow, and then it rained quite a bit.  So the snow that remained was a crust of a few inches of ice, then powder.

It was perfect for slicing into blocks, and stacking into a fort.  After a few experiments to find the right tools, we really hit our stride, and the fort went up very quickly.

Unfortunately, the sun was behind clouds most of the time, making photos difficult. :-(

Update: the rest of the week was much warmer, and after five days, all that remained was a mere spectral footprint:

wow, that beats any snow fort I ever made. By the way, a trick for photographing snow is to overexpose 1 1/2 - 2 stops -- although modern cameras might be smart enough to do the right thing? I don't know.

getting the white-balance correct with so much snow is always difficult. rar. i wish it were snowing here, but the warmer weather is starting already. it's nice to see this collection of coolness; doubly so. thanks for taking the time from your fun to snap a few pics, and again for sharing them.

now, i know the best use for the snow instead of making numerous snowmen. the remains of the fort look very expressive. make me shed a tear...(sigh)
