Amish Country - Opening day of trout season

On March 31, 2007, I woke before daybreak.  Knowing that Spring was coming and having seen several great photos of the Pennsylvania Dutch folks (Amish and Mennonites), I decided to get an early start and drive to Lancaster County, PA.

The plan was to focus on farmers with their horses in the fields and to get a few shots in the towns.  What I got was not the plan, but rather a real treat - something that reminds me why one must stay flexible when heading out with camera in hand.

A general comment, these proud people have rights, including the right to privacy.  I would not have shot these photos if these families had not been warm and welcoming to my curiousity to their activities this day.

I enjoyed shooting these shots and hope you enjoy viewing them.

Nice work. I am not so sure what that life isn't the way to go as it seems so peaceful and unhurried. I thought the horse and buggy at the gas station was really neat!

These photos are so beautiful and interesting! Thank you for taking us there, wonderfully peaceful scenes. The little girl isn't really in the bike basket, is she? The horse and buggies are so cool, and all the hats -- I wonder why that one group of youngsters fishing isn't wearing them?

They are all amazing. The light was your friend that day..Overcast and just perfect for the skin tones. I really like the shot looking through the barn at the cow and the group of kids w/o hats, the mailbox, and the ironic road sign. Fabulous Tabblo!
