Cape Cod in March (digital photos)

Cape Cod in the Winter is a unique time and place in the world. During the Summer the place is swarming with tourists and cars and the beaches are often packed. The few highways are often choked with traffic jams caused by people wanting to "get away" from the hustle and bustle of the mainland -- an amusing paradox. But during the Winter months, things slow down and you can witness the seclusion, quiet, and natural beauty of the swamps, salt flats, cranberry bogs (as seen here) and beaches that most of the Summer warriors probably never get to experience in their purity.

I also shot a bunch of slide film and you can see that Tabblo here.

Nauset Light Beach

Cooks Brook Beach

No, not the Arctic but close! The western shores of Cape Cod fill up with ice which gives you a sight many people don't get to see unless they live near the Great Lakes or further north.

Enjoy the views but don't walk too far off the beach... you may fall in like I almost did.

Marconi Beach

Eastham

Wellfleet

Nature's Wintery cycle is evident on the shores of Mayo Beach in Wellfleet. We discovered a recently deceased sea bird that must have floated in on a lone piece of ice. There was something noble and graceful about this bird, even in its death, and so I felt compelled to document it. Within ten meters of the bird could be found the carcass of a coyote or dog. Such a strange coincidence.

this documentary is fabulous. i love the angles. my favorite shots are of the skull and the interior of the church, great light in that one.
i've been to most of these places, and your photos totally captured their spirit

Really great shots, Jeff. I'm jealous that you guys saw dead animals (we saw none), but so glad you understand why I feel compelled to photograph every dead bird or animal I see!

A beach in winter is the best. It was many years ago that we lived on the North Shore of Mass., but the beach in winter will always move my heart. I never did see the Cape in winter, thanks for taking me down south.

I was wondering about your next Tabblo, Jeff, and you sure didn't disappoint. I really like the Marconi Beach shot. For some reason. The composition of little people...Thanks for another great experience.

Nice work Jeff......the Marconi Beach shot would have been a perfect HDR shot.
Engelgrafik said at 1:27 a.m. on Apr 6, 2007:
Hunter, you may be right. Although I've not seen much good HDR. I think it's going a bit overbored these days. I kinda like that this photo is a bit overexposed. It gives a very light feeling. I don't want a lot of range in this photo, but I could see how it would be nice to have more. But more is not always better, know what I mean? heheh.

Great shots! I love the national seashore beaches. They're awesome in the fall too, after the crowds leave and the days are still warm.
