Southern New Hampshire is blessed with many beautiful waterfalls. Tonight, I paid my first visit to the Old Reservoir Falls in Wilton, NH. I may post more photos later, but here's a shot of biggest cascade. It's a twenty five foot drop from top to bottom.

Thanks for the comments. Anjad, I use the TV setting on my Canon Powershot S2 IS. I'm not sure what the setting is for other point-and-shoot cameras, but on the Canon, TV means "shutter speed priority". In other words, you set the shutter speed and the camera picks the aperture. For moving water, I generally take 4 or 5 different exposures of a single scene, just varying the shutter speed from one exposure to the next. When I load the images on my computer, I pick the exposure that looks best. In this case, the shutter was open for 1/3 second, but the best exposure depends on a lot of factors like available light, aperture, water speed, presence of highlights (like snow), etc. I real pro can probably account for all the variables in his head. I find trial and error works best for me. ;-)

Great picture Dave! I will be visiting some Water falls this weekend and I will use the advise you listed above. I hope to at least capture one photo like this? Thanks for the info.

Yes, Reta, I love my Canon S2 IS. I haven't tried super macro mode yet. I'll have to give that a try soon. Thanks for the tip.
