Bibliophilia

No horizontal surface in our home is without a book or other reading material. Our coffee table (not shown) has an assortment of books which were chosen for the content of the words their in and not for the cover or as some celebrity book club status symbol. The low resolution is to hide some of the clutter which has amassed. Yes the boxes are full of books. If you look closely you will notice books on the kitchen table and the counter in the distance.

NOTE: Bibliophilia is not an accepted word, but has recently entered the common vernacular.

Bibliophilia is a wonderful thing! I've walked through houses where there wasn't a book to be seen, and it felt very strange, like it was just an empty Ikea display room or something. Where's the intellectual life in a place like that?

We're getting ready to move, and we had to take our house from active bibliophilia (we often joke that we are "text-based lifeforms") to the furniture display mode. Most of our books are in storage right now, and the house feels so empty. I like the wraparound manga collection at the top of the room, I'll have to remember that.

Thanks! I have better pictures of the custom wraparound I built from when we moved into the house. they are still on an old account I have: http://derivin.addr.com/mya/house/library/

The room seems so sterile in those pictures.

I went a little crazy with it and added in a strip of ELTape to the back of the selfing where there is a 1/8th inch gap between the shelf and wall (due to the mounting brackets). It makes for a fantastic night light. Just enough illumination to find that book you are looking for.

My long term plan is to turn our main living room into a library. That is many years away.
