DREADED DAY ARRIVES !!!

No other dogs had arrived yet. Thus the reason he is CALM...hahahaha...
 
OH NO .... what's this ???
 
Making new friends..... What a friendly little guy... hahahaha... He kept finding the GIRLS !!!

MARCH 20, 2007 -   JACK BLACK  faces the surprise of being neutered.  The first challenge was making him stay in his harness driving to the SPCA.   I had him in the car and went to lock the front door, and get in the front seat to drive off, when I see he has already gotten himself out of the harness.  I get out and get him back in it, and we drive 3 houses down, and he's out of it again.  By now I'm stressed..hahahaha... so I get that harness tight enough he's NOT GOING TO DO IT AGAIN !!!! 

 

We get to the SPCA and he gets to see animals for the first time and he goes crazy.  I discover he has a bark.  hahahha.. then he gets that puppy excitement, thinking ... "they have all come to play with me".  So he spends the rest of his time wrestling with me, because he wants to play.  Well ... they finally take him from me ... and he goes in for that horrible mean thing that they are going to do to him....!!!  I leave to go to work.. SMELLING LIKE DOGGY.

 
Worn out after his car ride home ...

WE GOT THE COLLAR FOR HIM SO HE WON'T BE BITING AT HIS INCISION.  HE HAS WALKED AROUND LIKE A DRUNK DOG MOST OF THE DAY.   I'LL SAY ONE THING .... HE SURE DIDN'T GIVE ME MUCH PROBLEM GOING HOME TODAY.   AMAZING ... hahahha...  HE TRIED TO GET IN THE FRONT WITH ME ONE TIME ... then decided to lay down.

 

THEY SAY HE MAY BE CLOSE TO 4 MONTHS OLD (instead of 3 like we were thinking) ... AND ... THEY THINK HE MAY BE BLACK LAB MIXTURE ... so maybe he's not a GREAT DANE ... like we were thinking.  :)   Either way ... he's still going to be a BIG DOG.  

 

So now he has to wear this white collar for a few days ... and see if that will keep him from getting his stitches open.   Hope this calms him down... :)  He did fine though, and he's been sooooo loveable all day.  He's not biting... cause he's too numb still.  I actually got to love on him.. hahahaha...

 

So here are the continued updates on the puppy and his life in OUR HOME !!!

Well I'm just glad this day is over. I have been dreading it...LOL. I knew getting him to the SPCA by myself would be a chore, because he's so strong already. He hates being on a leash too...so it was a challenge in many ways. But we both survived it. LOL

STEFAN - I must admit, I'm falling in love with the puppy. (grin)

ANDERS - LOL... You sound like the men at my office yesterday giving me grief for doing it. I was told if it is done before they are 5 months old, it calms them down and they are not as aggressive. hahahahah.... so I DID IT. I'll say one thing... he has been so lovable since sugery. I sit out on the porch with him and he lets me love on him, instead of biting me. hahahaha... I realize he's still slightly under sedation... hahahahaha.... BUT ... it's nice to be playing with him and not come in bleeding like usual...*wink*

Thanks Oscar. I'm enjoying him ... and trying to spend more time with him. He's feeling a bit sore today, but he's starting to get playful again. Can't keep him down for long...hahaha...

You should add this to the Dogs group (http://www.tabblo.com/studio/group/dogs/). Those collars always cracked me up. When Tessie was fixed, I was afraid they would put one on her and I knew it would drive her nuts. They said that they didn't normally do that, unless they really picked at the stitches (which she didn't). I thought she might be traumatized by the ordeal, but going to the vet (for shots, poking and probing) is still one of her favorite things.

LAURA - he's back to his old self. Nipping and biting as soon as I go out to him. :) He's not hurting.. that's for sure.

JEFF - He actually has not been traumatized with the collar. I think I was expecting him to be, but he just seems to deal with it. I think getting him in the car was harder then dealing with the vet at the SPCA...hahaha... what an ordeal.

DESMOND - Do you want me to draw you a picture... ???? Hahahaha... or should I take a picture of the stitches and where they are ... and send it to you privately to explain ???? LOL

Yeah.. I hate to admit it ... but he does. I was out at 10:40PM playing with him. I should have been in bed. He sure acts like nothing happened. We only had about 36 hours that he seemed to be tame...hahahaha... Oh well. He's still a puppy and I have to remember that he's teething.

SS - Yes ... he got the entire mess ... but you would never know it. He's just all fun and playful like before the surgery. Amazing how they bounce back so quick.

yeah, I took my Gigi in for her surgery in the morning. I picked her up after work. She slept all evening. By morning she was pretty much okay and happy as ever.

Yeah.. he did great, and he has his collar off again. He' s just a squirt like he was before the surgery. :)

Thanks Pam. He's doing great. He plays with that collar now ... throwing it in the air and around the yard. for entertainment. :)
