This is The Greek Independence Day Celebration in Boston, Massachusetts, known as The Athens of America. It began with a commemoration and declaration in the State House on Friday and culminatated with the parade and other festivities on Boston Common on Sunday. |

Greek Independence was declared on 25 March 1821 Bishop Germanos of Patras raised the Greek flag at the monastery of Aghias Lavras in the Peloponnese in Southern Greece. The Greeks declared "Liberty or Death" and there was no turning back. The Greeks, creators of democracy, would once again be free. |

The parade is a true representation of democracy. People of all ages come from all the New England states to participate. The young march with their elders as tradition and culture is passed from one generation to the next. |
