Good theme and well done. It reminds me of a few things. Some years ago with Koch as Mayor of New York, the no parking signs were changed a bit. For heavy traffic streets the signs read "No Parking - No Standing - No Stopping ... No Kidding." "Parking," "Standing" and "Stopping" refer to particulars about a car and a curb, so to speak, at least in terms of the legality of "I was just stopping to pick up my sick old mom!" There was also a news item some years ago about a town on Fire Island, Ocean Beach, that tried to regulate "day trippers." Fire Island is something of a summer sea island but it's accessible by a public ferry boat. "Day trippers" (as opposed to people that had summer houses there) are people that go out for the day to enjoy the beach. The town banned just about everything that one would do as a "day tripper." Removing clothes on the beach (with swim suits underneath) was made illegal. Eating food or drink on the beach was made illegal, and so on. All to try to make life as uncomfortable as possible for non-residents. The sign on the beach had a big "NO" on it with more than a dozen different forbidden items. The news story described Ocean Beach as "The Town of NO."

I am always on the prowl for signs, so I take them just about every outing. I love the irony and humor that appears. Destiny, I almost fell off my scooter when I saw that one! It's actually an old theatre turned music venue. Annelies that one's for you, cheers! I appreciate all your comments, guys, and am glad I could provide a bit of lightness...There are many more of these to come. Hi LatentE! What a cool story. I never knew what the Beatles were talking about in that song...Thanks for your great input, as always!

Another great tabblo ! The 'Imagine' stone is my preferred (with 'karma' in second) ! i think the world is full of ban and is becoming crazy ! this morning, i decide to send u the 'something' i said ... The post-office employee said to me that it was forbidden to send this type of parcel in the United States !! i am offended ! So, where is the freedom ??

Pkeener said at 9:18 a.m. on May 3, 2007:
Hi Kaz! Thnx for dropping in, Shirl, that's funny...it does make you wonder what they do feed them,! Joan and Whya Antonio, Ciao, Grazie! Afonso, what number is the picture? It is not green on my computer, but I think you mean the sign below the "Stop" sign? It is an OLD sign painted on the street in the crosswalk near a school in my neighborhood. It says: LOOK BOTH WAYS. Fred, they probably take it as if it is a plot of some kind. It feels like we are back in the McCarthy days! That is terrible. My next SIGN Tabblo will be Political in nature, so I am hoping to not offend anyone.

Pam , I really love the philosophy of your street art tabblos and street graffitis . A touch of irony, a touch of poetry and definitively not conventional . The story telled by Latent E on NY " No" and Fire Island is nice and make me smile . Well let's go to St Tropez for the next summer or on the beaches of Languedoc , South France, where naturism is the main philosophy ! Just Kidding

Pam, after having company I am just catching up on tabblos, and this is a definite favorite. Love the humor, and the just plain off-the-wallness of some of them (like "Air, help yourself" ...) Thanks for being so observant for all of us who love signs and urban art.
EMA said at 2:01 p.m. on May 5, 2007:

Pam ... you rock. :) You always have such neat tabblos. This took some time to capture such a wide variety of signs. :) Awesome!!!!!
Abking said at 12:04 a.m. on May 6, 2007:
Great collection of signs. Different ones stand out when I scroll through-the "open" sign with "open" repeated above the negative space with the letters cut from the original (that's so much easier to look at than describe), and the "Look" sign which reminds me of similar "Look" signs at intersections in Salt Lake City where I was going through not too long ago, and also took photos of, thinking, "this could really work in a Signs Tabblo." Great collection. The way you've put them together really gives a sense of place.
