Are YOU ready?

It's that time of year:  emergency weather.

Are you prepared?

We recently added to our emergency supplies "hand crank" flashlights that never need new lightbulbs...crank for 60 seconds to get 30min. worth of lighting....and.....THIS:

This radio also comes with an AC adaptor & rechargable battery pack...you can also use regular AA batteries OR HAND-CRANK to get power.  It comes in SUPER clear and powerful.  (This one cost 60 bucks plus tax)

This one has AM-FM radio and TV channels and it receives all 7 NOAA emergency channels.  It also has an emergency light and flash...and siren.  You can put it on "standby" for the NOAA alerts.  Oh, and a cell  phone chargers (comes with about 11 adapters for that).  It is waterproof.

Emergency purpose notwithstanding, I like the idea of crank-wound electronic devices as such. Our muscles are such a straightforward source of clean, renewable energy. Why not couple them with some high-tech stuff that would otherwise use lithium or some other toxic crap?

Don't plug the radio in, just wind it. Don't drill holes in the desert for irrigation water, just lay a lot of stones and enough morning dew will collect for the vegetation to catch on. It requires humblety to remember that creativity is not about sophistication - it's about making things work.

Sorry about the rant, you've just inspired me with this.
