Gender- American Airlines

Could it be possible that the one place we least expect to see gender separation is through AA's marketing ideas? American Airline created what they hoped would attract more women travelers with a new website that was only for "women." They state "We obviously have a vast interest in women. There is an untapped resource." It website mentions "women friendly things like girlfriends and book recommendations"

"We've been listening, a lot, to our valued female customers. Some of what we've been hearing is that women would like to have a place where they can connect with other women, and with American Airlines. Today, we're launching a dedicated online resource: AA.com/women. It's all aout travel for women, with things like:

-Quick links, making doing business with American even easier

-"Women connected through Business," containing the latest travel information from safety and security to travel rewards.

-"Women connected Through Lifestyle," with information about getaways and all the ways to redeem miles.

-"Women Connected Through Each Other," dedicated to our women's network, charities, interviews, and profiles

-And, special offers! Wyndham is currently offerering a 20% discount and special spa offers. See AA.com/women for complete details.

Many found the idea of the site and its content to be stereotyped and insulting. The customer experience at American Airlines was not improved and did not succeed as an outreach to women. As one of the quoted women in Sharkey's article mentions, "it should be no big surprise that women want the same things that men do in air travel. Women may tend to have higher customer experience standards, but a lot of guys are not loving the idea of flying these days either. What an airline should be striving to serve from the get-go: the highest common denominator, no gender about it."
