Fields of blue: Camas

There is nothing more beautiful than the wild Camas lilies that grow in the woods around Victoria, BC at this time of year. I have tried to select photos that illustrate the sort of environment the Camas grows in, for example wherever the Garry Oak is you will often find Camas. The Garry Oak is a protected tree that only grows in this area;  the yellow broom - this is a native of Scotland intrduced in mid 1800s and now an invasive weed on southern Vancouver Island; Labrador Tea and the colourful buttercup, to name just a few. Enjoy!

The other flower intermingled with the Camas is great. The Camas colour reminds of the bluebells in the wood of England. Thank you for the Tabblo

Nice tabblo. Great color theme with hints and waves of blue and violet. I could almost sense my shoes and lower pants getting damp from walking through the watery brush.

Noreen, these are gorgeous! Don't you just love taking pictures of the wildflowers? You only have a short period of time then they are gone. Glad you had your camera ready!

What a lovely collection. Some of the images look like the ground was dusted with blue pastel. Really pretty spot. Super macro shots. Thank you for your invitation.

Thank you all for your most generous comments. Laura, these are definitely raindrops, just as Kenneth said. Today I went back to the same spot and was surprised to see, sitting on my favourite bench, Dr. David Suzuki being interviewed for an upcoming national TV program about climate change. Although today was one of the first warm sunny days we have had this year I felt I was lucky to have taken my photos yesterday with the raindrops adding a lot of interest to the images.

What a wonderful tabblo! ... and I'm not saying this because the subject matter is new and beautiful to me; I see camas all the time since I live in Victora too :) ... but you have some wonderful photos here that not only take advantage of a beautiful subject, but speak highly of your perspective and skill. ... I particularly love the ones with the clinging raindrops, Very nice.

Alfonso, Alidar and Karsten, thank you so much for your gracious comments. Alidar, I have sent you an email (within Tabblo). Karsten, I think LOL would describe my reaction to the translation of 'camas' into Spanish!! Thank you again, everybody.

What a beautiful flower... I've always wondered what a cama looked like. Thanks for this.... can you add it to the BC Group?
JoanW said at 4:23 p.m. on May 17, 2007:
Fantastic splash of colour Noreen, I just love it, specially blue my favourite colour. It reminds me so much of the fields of bluebells we used to see as kids in the U.K. Whenever we went for a walk in the woods, it would be carpeted with bluebells in the Spring and Summer time. Brings back a lot of good memories. Thanks for sharing.

Noreen, what a lovely landscape covered pretty blue flowers. Lilies at that! Lilies growing in the wild are making the entire area look like a beautiful large painting, especially the first picture. Are the rocks too covered with the blue flowers? They look so blue too. :o) You have captured the essence of the place wonderfully. :o)

Thank you, Jeff for visiting and commenting. These photos were all taken with a Sony-DSC R1, a discontinued camera after only about a year but known for its remarkable lens.
