This Monday Blues Tabblo is dedicated to my mother, Kathryn. Yesterday, she celebrated her 65th Mother's Day, and because her favorite color is blue, it seemed the perfect choice for this Tabblo. I chose just a few precious (blue) things to share with you. My mom collected plates of all kinds, and we used to tease her about it, but, secretly, I always thought it was so cool, and I couldn't wait for the next one to arrive in the mail. She bought these plates below when my sister's and I were in our 20's. She gave the top one to me and the quote you see is on the back side of the plate, with the artist's signature. I ended up having a baby girl, but, I always adored this plate. The next two are special Mother's Day plates which she gave to my sister, Nancy, who wasn't a mom (yet) and my sister, Peggy. Peggy's broke, but she couldn't bear to part with it. I had one, too, but it shattered into a million little pieces (along with my heart) when I moved a few years ago. |

I have loved this coffee pot since I was a little girl. Mom got it in Dresden, when my parents were stationed in Germany, long before I was born. The blue flowers always seemed so cheery.
She brought these beautiful Wedgewood boxes back from England. The round one for me, and Nancy's is the egg. I collect boxes, and she always brought one back for me from her many trips abroad. Mine has been sitting on my dresser, holding my rings, for at least 20 years.

Like most women of her era, my mother had a huge jewelry box that openned up on top and had lots of little drawers lined in velvet. It was made of blue (naturally) leather and my father had it monogrammed for her. It was always a special treat to go into her room while she was getting ready to go out and "help" pick her jewelry. |

I loved that box, but what held more delight for me was this simple, blue, plastic box, that originally held a strand of pearls. She kept all of her "paste" jewelry in it. She had several strands of crystals with earrings to match. I thought they were the most glamorous and beautiful things I had ever seen. I used to sneak into her room and take a quick peek in the box, just to behold their brilliance. One strand still lives in that old box, along with a mis-matched pair of earrings. Clip ons, of course. |

Mom also loved Iris. She called them flags. These aren't the light blue color she liked so much, but I didn't think she would mind.
Happy Mother's Day, Mom! |
