In Izmir, Turkey we chose a tour through the ship called Ancient Ephesus and the House of the Virgin Mary. This was an amazing tour, and we couldn't have asked for better weather! Our tour started with about an hour bus ride to the House of the Virgin Mary. This is where it is said that St. John took Mary after the crucifixion of Christ to keep her safe. It is not known where she died or is buried, but this holy site is amazing place to visit. After this brief tour, we drove to Ephesus, a short distance away. Ephesus is one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world. And we can see why! It was like walking through an outdoor museum. The highlights are the Celsus Library (135 AD), The Temple of Hadrian, and the Roman Theatre. |
