New Neighbors: Part 4

May 4:  they were still eggs.

May 11: they hatched and resembled little aliens.

May 13: they turned black and feather fuzz was beginning to form.

May 18: they were covered in feathers and bulging out of the nest.

May 20: all four look about ready to take off any day.

Not much room left in the nest.

May 21 (one day later): two have flown away, leaving two in the nest awaiting their big, first day out.

May 22: Momma Robin has a mouthful of worms, but there are no babies left to feed -- the nest is empty and the babies are learning to fly.

I spot the little fledgling half-flying low in the yard, and she slowly flaps her way up into my snowball bush, where she sits and rests.  She cheeps and a sibling high in a nearby arborvitae cheeps back.  Momma Robin is nearby cheeping too.

Goodbye sweet, baby robins!  Thank you for letting me watch you grow up -- it was an unforgettable three weeks!  Good luck, have wonderful lives, and come back and visit.  You are always welcome in my yard.
