Finally got Cameron to do at least a one nighter with me. I know... he didn't look too happy on most of the pictures but he really did have a good time. Maybe not a great time, but I know he had lots of fun.
Lost my topo map so we didn't finish the loop, instead I decided to back track. Yes, I am pretty sure that I would've remembered the rest of the loop without the map, but having Cameron with me I wanted to make 100% sure. I didn't need him to be scared on the one trip he decided to take with me. This trip needed to be in his memory as a fun trip. If ya know what I mean! After all I have plans for this kid.
When we arrived at the backpackers overnight parking area we already knew we were in luck. Only a few clouds in the sky. Weather was nice and comfortable warm. We started our hike slow to get him used to his backpack. Once up on Rhododendron Gap we were greeted by blooming Rhododendron everywhere. Pretty amazing view I tell ya.
Yes, I know we completely lucked out, I am sure we had THE best campsite. [ Near where Crest trail and P Crest trail meet]. We passed on the first campsite because the ponies seamed to taken over that area. Next campsite was small but super nice. Firewood was hard to find, but we did manage to get about 1 1/2 hours worth of campfire out of it. By the time the fire was out Cameron was ready to hit the sack. I am so proud of him...he did a great job. No complaining about anything. Well... actually he had no reason to complain, all he carried in his pack was his sleeping bag, the mat and a light jacket. Oh yeah...and his water. I carried everything else. |

Tabblo pictures: if you click on them you'll see the complete pictures. Right now they are sort of cut to fit the template I guess.
Hardest thing for me was to part from my camera lenses. I finally choose my super wide and my cheapo 50mm. Good choices, at least I thought so.
Below: Storm clouds up in the sky. Luckily we didn't get rained on during this trip. Sure looked like it thou huh?!

After changing this Tabblo like a hundred times I just now realized that we have no campsite or even a single campfire photo. I have no excuse for that...but lets me try to give you one anyway... Okay, here I go...Once we set up camp we had to walk to our water source to refill our water, filter it of course, and hike back. That took a little time because my filter is a real pain in the butt. We both looked for firewood which probably took us the longest. After gathering the little wood that we found we finally got our fire started. I am the fire queeon, so it didn't take long. We cooked, talked mom and son talk, and laught. That was it. I do know that I had to go to bed really early because Cameron the tuff outdoors man was tired. :) All together this trip was a huge success. Cameron packed his gameboy, and didn't even play it on this trip. Hey...that alone was worth the whole trip. And as an added bonus I did get to spend some real one-on-one time with my baby. Yeah...he told me not to call him baby anymore. THE END! |
