On a short walk to the open air market in the Tienmu neighborhood of Taipei on a Sunday afternoon, I came across a parade celebrating the spirits. Many of the storefronts burned incense and placed offerings of fruit and ceremonial paper money to the spirits passing in by in the parade. Some also set off firecrackers. I was told that the parade was held in honor of offering peace. Many of the Chinese Gods and spirits such as Matsu were represented in this parade. |
