For a portion of my co-op experience I visited several shipyards in Eastern China. CMEC, China National Machinery & Equipment Import and Export Corporation (where I'm doing my co-op), is an international contractor for TEU container ships, multi-purpose carrier vessels, oil/chemical tankers, and other vessels of the sort. Shipyards are like massive assembly lines, starting at one area of the yard with raw material and ending at an other area as finished products. So much work goes into a ship and the working conditions are pretty grueling. |
