A Break From War

Cathy's Dad - Joe Makarski - is on the left.  We don't know his buddy's name.  They were enjoying R&R in Yokohama, Japan in June 1951.  They were both combat veterans of the Korean War - and headed back to Korea after their R&R.

This is the original photograph taken in 1951.

I love this picture! Hard to overlook the youth in these faces. The almost fatherly closeness of the Staff Sergeant, a senior NCO, as he rests his arm comfortably upon the shoulder of his Corporal buddy, one he certainly cared for and watched over in battle. The Combat Infantry Badge they both wear above their ribbons attest to their courge and heroism. HOOAH!
