Nice framing and color choice - it allows the flower to stand on it's own so well.

very simple eloquence, great lighting and shadows within the flower itself, the black background perfect. great job :)

Tabblo Critique Group: I really like what you have here. It is elegant and simple. When I first saw it, I was drawn to the yellows and thought is it sleeping? wiliting? :)

You have an excellent photo here. The flower is clear, crisp, in focus!

A couple of suggestions:

a) I would have framed the flower to the right more (move flower to the right) so the eye is drawn to the center ... right now my eye is drawn left - leading out of the photo. I think I like when the photo draws me "into" the photo.

b) If you were going to do post processing (and this is not needed - but for fun), I would try boosting contrast a little - get the brights a drop brighter. I would also play with boosting contrast on the green stem so it has a little glare.

Again this was just for fun.

You have an excellent photo here. The flower is clear, crisp, in focus!

Thanks again everyone... and thank you Cruising for your critique, I'll go and play with it and repost it on here. Quick q though, I've always heard that you're not supposed to centre your shots, supposed to off centre them a bit.

TCG: Elegant, simple and understated. Sometimes less is more and that is the case here. I know that Bob suggests that you center the flower but I would rather have it slightly off center over to the right. Sort of in the lower right hand corner. I tend to subscribe to the rule of thirds.I find that off-centered phots can be more impactful. I'm not saying Bob is wrong, it's just a personal preference on my part. It also doesn't mean that I never center the subjects in my photos....just not very often. Heck, I guess it depends on the subject being photographed. *throws up hands*

Tabblo critque group: A very beautiful and simply elegant image. Great job! ... I agree with Wendy about not centering the flower in the frame. It looks fine the way you have it, but people tend to read things from left to right. so by placing the flower right of center would close off the framing and keep the eye moving within the frame, especially since the flower is leaning towards the left.
Cruising said at 1:57 p.m. on Jul 4, 2007:
@CANDICE... yes you should not center... but right now (my perspective and opinion - not right vs wrong), the flower is facing "outside" the photo... if you move it to the right of center (now it is left of center), it will still be off center (to the right) but facing "into" the photo.

Hope this makes sense.

Either way - this is very beautiful. Nice job.
Cruising said at 2:01 p.m. on Jul 4, 2007:
@Wendy... Just for clarification - I wasn't suggesting centering the flower. I meant move it to the right, so the eye is drawn more towards center. I hope that makes sense :)

This is so beautiful...the lighting is perfect!
Candice said at 2:45 p.m. on Jul 4, 2007:
Ok, I tried to off centre it to the right... don't know if I did a good job of it or not *shrugs*
Let me know what you think... and I Totally apprecitate ALL of your oppinions. That's the only way I'm going to learn ;o) BTW... I'm sorry Bob I missunderstood what you meant :o)
Wlk68 said at 2:52 p.m. on Jul 4, 2007:
I guess I misunderstood too. Sorry, Bob.

Candice, I very much like the second pic with the daisy in the lower right hand corner. Bob's explanation that the flower is now "facing into" the photo is right on the nose.

Great image.. simple, sharp and clean ! the last pic wins for best composition imo.........
DVP said at 3:17 p.m. on Jul 4, 2007:
This certainly is a beautiful photo. I wonder if you might consider a SQUARE photo instead of the standard rectangular. I agree that having it slightly offset to the right is a nice way to lead the eye. I love the lighting with this photo too. Another idea that I think could work is to do a vertical layout and show more of the stem and use it as a point of interest. Great work all round.
Cruising said at 3:42 p.m. on Jul 4, 2007:
No worries - I obviously wasn't clear :) ... I love how you completed the second photo. Both are great - but I prefer the second. Nice.
Jsm said at 5:15 p.m. on Jul 4, 2007:
Tabblo critique group - Love the black background on both; like the second incarnation better than the first, though the tabblo border on the first is better. The stem seems greener on the second; if so, good. Well done; only black can fancy up that yellow just that way.

Tabblo Critique Croup - I was confused at first seeing two essentially identical shots, but reading the comments explained it. I think I would put the center of the frame within the yellow part and let the eccentricity come from the white petals coming out only on one side. I like the second better than the first, though.
What struck me was a kind of meta-tabblo that I saw when I first came to the group page. The Daisy against its black background was near a couple fireworks Tabblos - and the similarity hit me immediately.

I think that, in this pictures , miss deep of focus enough, I mean , I noticed that the first plane and the last plane are a little out of focus, may be taken the picture with a small diafragm hole, if the machine allow that. I know that is a classic problem in macro photography.
Other way may be take the picture a little far of the object and using the zoom..
I like so the pictures , and I dont like to make critics, but is the right place to do is , isn“t?

Candace, i would not change anything here. i think its perfect the way it is. i like the bottom one better though because the flower seems to have more "breathing space".
